If you are getting a sense of déjà vu from one look at this Leica, you'd be right to trust your instincts. The D-Lux 5 is its maker's near like-for-like interpretation of Panasonic's well-received Lumix DMC-LX5, which hit the shelves last year at around £450. Except that the version with the famous red dot logo we're testing here, in an 'it's Christmas so let's push the boat out' type of way, is the outwardly gorgeous limited edition D-Lux 5 Titanium. The Leica D-Lux 5 compact camera is undeniably expensive. But its superior images, classic design and broad range of features go a long way towards justifying its price tag. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

    • Sublime picture quality, Plenty of manual options, Classic design, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom software included
    • Expensive, No built-in viewfinder, Disappointingly pedestrian user interface

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 is one of our favourite premium grade compact cameras, which means our hopes for the nigh identical 10.1MP, 3.8x optical zoom Leica D-Lux 5 Titanium are as high as the price tag. Yes, owning a Leica camera with its famous little red dot logo costs a lot, with little concession made to market competitiveness. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

Leica has taken the already stylish D-Lux 5 and clad it with an anodised layer of titanium. It’s a beautiful camera – and the Italian leather case that comes with it ain’t too shabby either. You also get a copy of Adobe Lightroom 3 in the box to help with processing your shots. Those accoutrements and that design go some way towards justifying its terrifying price tag.

I too own a Nikon D90, but the lens on the D-Lux 5 is awesome. You can call it red dot mania or a Lumix or anything else, but the lens is a Leica! With three aspect ratios to choose from, I really like the wide angle feature it provides. The thumb wheel on the back of the camera is also very nice for changing aperture or shutter speeds. Been travelling Australia for 6 months with my Leica and Canon DSLR (with lenses etc) - 9 times out of 10, the Leica came out to capture the moment. Arriving at a new town or location, the Leica was camera of choice to carry all the time, whereas the Canon was an effort. As you get older (and wiser?) the little Leica is easy, convenient, and the quality is just fantastic - I don 't print A3+ and like many old film travel photographers, I just upload photos to a web li...

Having tired of carrying my DSLR and associated gear, I decided to go to a Point and Shoot (P&S) camera. My last camera was a Nikon D-60. Having used a full sized sensor I was concerned with loosing picture quality by going to a P&S. My most pressing concern, was to get as close to the superior photo quality of a DSLR full sized sensor as possible, in a P&S. I finally decided on the Leica due to superior photo quality and excellent in-camera jpeg processing. Läs mer Översätt till svenska
