  1. What Hi-Fi?

    6 oktober 2010

We first saw the original Audioengine A5 speakers back in 2007. Riding the wave of interest in digital music, those large powered speakers delivered impressive sound on a budget to play any music source via their 3.5mm inputs. A few years in the making, we now have an upgraded model. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

    • Stereo and 3.5mm input, remote control, tight, well-marshalled bass, good sonic detail
    • No iPod dock

Most of the MP3 speakers that flood the Stuff office on a daily basis don’t live and breathe hi-fi – they exist for convenience and music snacking. This is, of course, fine for many people, but now a few systems are appearing that could yet convince audiophiles to scope out the digital scene. Following valve docks from Fatman and Roth are the Audioengine A5 speakers, which promise ‘hi-fi’ sound from MP3. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

The fantastic, audiophile-friendly Audioengine 5+ speakers sound powerful without a thunderous subwoofer or booming bass. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

    • Audiophile-quality performance. Flat response speakers that provide refined bass performance. Attractive design.
    • Remote has very few controls on it. No ability to adjust treble or bass. Not for bass lovers.

(1 items) I’ve been a fan of Audioengine’s A5 powered bookshelf speakers ( ) since I first laid ears on them in 2006. They provided plenty of enjoyable sound for their size and, at $350, they were a solid bargain. The company has since released an updated version of the A5 named, appropriately enough, the A5+—or, officially, the A5+ Premium Powered Speakers . They are, in nearly every way, worthy successors to the original. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

    • Punchy sound, Dual inputs, Plenty of volume
    • Lacks predecessor's built-in AC port, Sound favors bass and lower-mids
  5. Silent PC

The Audioengine A5+ represent an uncommonly good value in today's fractured consumer audio marketplace, and a bonafide entry-level high end product. The integration of all the various components in the A5+ is outstanding, especially at the $399 asking price. Some of the most challenging engineering tasks involve optimizing and balancing multiple objectives within many limitations. The A5+ is a perfect example of such a challenge well met. 1. Bra

Men väldigt bra högtalare i klassen! Läs mer

  2. Absolute bargain for the price, capable of superb sound quality

Lets get the negative out of the way first - I knocked 1 star off because my first set went faulty within just 15 minutes use (left hand mid/bass driver stopped working) and I had to wait 9 days for replacements because they had to go back to the UK distribution center to be tested before replacements would be issued, so not the best quality control on the planet, nor the fastest replacement. Purchasing a new iMac meant having to upgrade my ancient Dell computer speakers so music listening could be appreciated. There are many options out there, for sure; but I am coming from a listening experience that left nothing to chance, I needed something that was "fulfilling." These certainly meet that need. I LOVE that you can tailor your sound with the crossover option with the bass unit. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

  4. Simply Awesome for WMC!

I should have gotten these a long time ago for my expensive self custom built desktop computer! I enjoy running Windows Media Center (WMC) going to sleep now (love playing my RUSH collection!). Being able to play MY music at the volume I want. For years I was using Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 Series II 2.0 Multimedia Speaker System (or lower)...ya, they're okay speakers. Being okay, I used WMC...sometimes. With Audioengine A5+ speakers now...all the time! Läs mer Översätt till svenska

    • Self-powered; awesome sound at high levels; perfect bass (no subwoofer needed); remote control; ship very well protected (packaged - two boxes); I love my RUSH ripped CD collection again!
    • Absolutely none for me...but for some maybe: No protective grills (may be an issue if kids have finger access), but this is not for me; cost may be for some, but you really get what you pay for IMO so not a con for me.
  5. Excellent quality and sound - i think best speakers in this category.

Bought these for my office as an upgrade to the a set of Bose Companion 20 playing music from my pc - definitely like the upgrade. The Bose we pretty decent but the A5+ are even better - more musical and lot more base. One advantage the Bose has though, was able to get nice rich sounds at very low volumes with the speakers just 14" from me - i had to move the A5+ a bit further out (maybe 2 ft) and crack the volume a bit loader.
