Our tests are supposed to answer one main question - whether or not a given instrument is worth buying. In the case of the Canon EF 2.8/20 mm the answer is unambiguous – it isn’t! Spending almost 500 $ we get picture effects that are possible to achieve using cheaper and much more universal lenses like a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 or a Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. - average image quality at the frame edge,, a bit too high chromatic aberration,, huge vignetting even on an APS-C sensor,, weak work against bright light.

Since the release of the EOS system we have seen several updates to Canon ultra-wide zoom lenses but they didn't really care about their fix-focals in this range ever since their initial release back in the early 90s. The Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM feels a little dated by now - less so regarding its mechanical qualities but optically it isn't really something special anymore. As a wide-angle lens for cropped sensors, this lens falls a little short, with virtually all of the standard zooms giving a wider angle of view. However, on the full frame sensors that Canon are now producing, this lens still warrants its place in their line-up. - Not that useful on cropped sensors., Stiff manual focus ring (on example tested), Distortion worse than on modern designs (minor point), Hood not included with lens

The Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Lens fits in a nice wide angle focal length space below the ultra-common 24-something and 28-something zoom lenses. There is a noticeable FOV (field of view) difference between 20mm and 24/28mm. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

i have to be close to my subject to get a good shoot. but the quality of the video and picture are super. great wide angle but remember you will have to be close to you subject to get the fully of it or them. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

This lens is a great one to have in my kit. The optics are really great and it is not too wide. I mainly use it as a video lens on my Sony NEX FS100 and the image quality is pretty stunning. I am very happy to own this lens. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

Agree with the other reviewer RE crops. I'm using this on a trip and with a 7D @ 18MP I get fantastic 100% crops. This is a great landscape lens and I think a great buy if you can deal with primes. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

This lens give you a big punch for the money ! I use it for indoor ambient pictures and for landscape. Image quality is very good at f=4 and acceptable wide open. You cant go wrong. Läs mer Översätt till svenska

I shoot with it on a Canon 40D. I bought this lens for shooting nightclubs and bands, in locations I did not want to risk taking my 24-105L lens. I intended this to be a cheap purchase that I could use at F4 to F5.6 combined with a bracket mounted flash to shoot clubs and events. - I occasionally really miss shots because of focus being off.
