If you want a porro with superb image quality then your choice is becoming very limited. The EII is out of production, the Swaro 8x42 is very expensive and the superior E is not the easiest to live with. You have two choices the fabulous Opticron hrwp | Leupold Cascade 8x42 or for almost half the price this strange shaped odd looking internally focused but with externally adjusting ocular's thing! Pentax pcf wpII 8x42 These have great optical quality and are well built.

I received these binoculars two days ago and have been putting them through the paces, indoors and outdoors. The temp. outside today was about 25 degrees fahrenheit, a partly cloudy winter day. I came across some Cedar waxwings and also a Downy woodpecker, the views through these Pentaxs' were great, I noticed the focus was very sharp and the Birds colors looked natural. Great weather-resistant binocular

8x40 is better for hand-hold. If you don't care about the weather-resistant feature, Nikon Action is cheaper and fantastic. But if you go outdoors a lot, at this price range, Pentax 8x40 PCF WP II is all you need. Great optics, great image quality, great weather-proof casing, I am so glad to get this model.
