    World Heroes Anthology is an interesting retrospective look at the era when 2D fighting games ruled the arcades, but it ultimately holds no real value today for anyone who's not a huge SNK fan or who doesn’t have the patience to get used to the series’ quirky control scheme and characters.     • Insane and hilarious cast of characters, Deathmatch mode adds variety, The only game that lets you throw ghost sharks at Hulk Hogan.
    • The poor man's Street Fighter II, Deathmatch mode was removed after World Heroes 2, Clunky, sometimes nonresponsive controls, Aged visuals and gameplay.

    With the exception of long time fans of the series, it’s hard to recommend World Heroes Anthology to anyone with any real conviction. Thanks to its lack of originality, below par animations and questionably implemented controls, World Heroes Anthology can be seen as little more than an average collection of Street Fighter II clones.     For the uninitiated, World Heroes was a 2D Neo Geo fighting game in line with the likes of Street Fighter and King of Fighters that featured a roster of characters consisting of Bruce Lee, Hulk Hogan and M. Bison, or at least people that bare a strong resemblance to them anyway. It never had the strong following, nor historical significance that the aforementioned games did and still do, which makes the existence of World Heroes Anthology a bit strange, though it has to...     So how does the collection stack up? For fighting game fanatics, it’s always fun to go back to the roots of the genre and see how it all began. For the simply curious, the low purchase price makes this worth looking at if you want to see what all the fuss over the genre is about.     Back in the 1990s, the Neo Geo was console gaming's answer to arcade machines. If it was big, bold and ate through money like a starving moth, a Neo Geo version would follow, usually for an equally unthrifty sum.
