The LS-10 is a bit of a chimera with designs on the semi-pro market and yet has no dedicated line output, just a headphone socket, and is lumbered with antiquated file handling. Plenty of gadgets claim to be tough without actually being tough. (You know the type; loud as a motorbike, but wouldn’t bust a grape in a food fight.) But the Olympus LS-10 digital recorder actually walks the walk. - Can double as a high quality main input mic. Internal low-cut filter cuts out low frequency sounds and clarifies human voices accurately. Dual 16mm round dynamic speak...
- Lacks XLR inputs. Back speaker audio fidelity is imprecise and a bit echoey. Monochrome display on a $400 device? What is this 1998?

It's a great recorder, audio quality is amazing. The only thing people need to know before buying is that it needs a fast SD card, when I bought it I decided to buy it alongside th e sd card that amazon recommends but after a few recordings I noticed that they were stopping every 15 secs or so for a short period of time. My LS 10 is about two years old. The recording quality per format is unparalleled. Up until the last few days, I would have trusted it to record the reunion of the Beatles. I hope this is an anomaly, but I noticed another review: "machine locks up & cannot be oprated until power is cut off (by removing batteries); then, on re-powering either the card cannot be accessed, of the file is "protect-locked", or it simply "disappears". I know this is advertised as a voice recorder, but our band uses it to record rehearsals, and now shows. The resulting recording is well balanced (each instrument/vocal discernible), and there's NO overdriving or distortion. I plan to use this to record interviews for a book project. So far, it is working exactly as I intended. It's easy to operate and will make archiving the digital recordings easy.
